If I die tonight,
Let not anyone interrogate why,
Let not anyone praise me at my last sendoff,
But speak only what is right and true,
By that my soul shall rest in peace,
If I die tonight,
Let not my neighbour say we were friends,
Let her not talk of the stories we used to chat,
Let her talk of my starvation,
Let her tell you I slept on an empty stomach every night,
While she threw refuse of foods in the garbage pit.
If I die tonight,
Don't ever say you loved me so much,
Don't write those emotional captivating quotes on my panegyric on how good I was,
But write on how you spat on my back,
Write on your pretence to care but in reality laughed at my downfalls,
Write on your silence when I needed your hands the most,
If I die tonight,
Don't buy me those expensive suits while I walked naked,
Don't spray my remains with those sweet scented perfumes while I didn't even have a soap to bath,
Don't bury me in a coffin worthy thousands while I never afforded even a single meal in a day,
Instead, give me the sendoff I deserve,
Wrap by body in a polythene and throw it in a six feet under,
If I die tonight,
Tell everyone that I hid my tears behind jokes and memes,
Tell them those were my only companions when all of you had deserted me without bothering to know how I was fairing on,
Tell everyone that you had my contacts but none of you ever bothered to check on me,
Tell them you saw me suffering but gave a blind eye.
If I die tonight,
Tell them I tried to communicate my misery through pen and paper,
But all I got is, "Nice poem Ritchie...You're indeed talented."
Leaving my heart to crumple with nothing to hold on,
Nobody to question if my writings are my inner reflection,
Only to get pierced by my own words.
If I die tonight,
Tell everyone that I'm grateful for every experience I received,
Tell them I died a simple death,
Let them know I died a death I never deserved to die.
