She Knows Me, I Know Her

She had seen greater than me, she had seen them fall,
When I was introduced to her 17 years into my life,
she welcomed me with open arms and a warmth only a mother could offer,
despite our age barrier we made a bond, more of a vow,
she loved me as much as I loved her.

With words she filled my brain and I transferred them to paper,
she made me know the part of me I could only have imagined,
she lit the light at the of the tunnel and held my hand as we walked on rails,
she filled the pot holes and led me on smooth tarmac,
she cleaned my shoes after I had played in muck like a piglet,
she washed me clean after swimming in the pond,
with her arms she warmed me when I was hit by storms so cold,
she showed me a reason to smile in the hardest of times
she was always there for me that I felt indebted.

She was there on my wedding day, when I said my vows to my wife,
she could feel the adrenaline rush when I kissed the bride,
she felt every beat of my heart when we walked down the aisle,
she could feel my tremor when I stopped halfway,
she was there, safely tucked in my pocket and felt my wife's softness press against me,
she was there, and never felt jealous,
Instead she made my wife's eyes teary, when I took her out
and introduced her to my wife,
she was there, I was there, we were there.

She was there when I got my first job,
she was there when I lost it,
she was there when I had lost all hope,
and had turned to the bottle,
she was there when I called myself useless,
she was there when my wife had lost all hope in me,
I had lost all, but she hadn't lost me, just yet,
she showed me all the incredible things we had accomplished,
she showed me the path to the light,
again, she lit the light at the end of the tunnel,
she led me on the rails and brought me to my feet,
she showed me the meaning of independence...

She was there when political unrest hit my country,
she happily passed my message to the patriots,
she was with me when I was locked up,
she still could fly away from the six feet high walls,
she could still fit in the tiny window and take my words to the world,
she was with me on trial,
she stood by me when I was locked away for good,
she never left me lose hope,
she was there when the new government came,
she was there when I was unlocked and tasted the fresh air with me,
she shared my joy and I shared her excitement.

She was there at my burial,
she did not shed tears, neither could she accompany me,
she had been with me all steps of the way,
and she was the best to continue my legacy,
she would be the one to make sure I wasn't forgotten,
she would live on, and my name would be synonymous with hers.

Her name is Poetry.
