Tables Turned

Into the void he wanders.
Clutching on to hope;
The only bridge between
Him and oblivion.

All around him has melted
Into gooey memories
And haunting guilt
That threatens his sanity.

He is a son of the sun
And all he knew was warmth,
Sometimes scathing flames
That burned out comfort
From the hardest of hearts.

Here and now,
Trapped in the labyrinth
He wove for others.
His grin has turned upside down
From the taste of tears
Shed by those
Whose smiles he had squeezed out.

His only wish,
An end.
